I’m a big Etsy fan; I think it’s such an awesome way to shop for unique items. It also just so happens that my very talented artist mom has a pretty new Etsy shop! She gave me one of her beautiful handmade paper nightlights this weekend and it inspired me to do a post about her shop and the wonderful things she makes!
Kit Lucas is a hand papermaker and book binder in Napa, CA. She’s been making paper by hand, using a mold and deckle, since I can remember, so at least 20 years. My dad grows her flowers and plants that can be used for paper or as pressed inclusions, which I think is so cool! Here are some pictures of the nightlight she gave me (the maple leaves are from our yard):
I also have 3 sets of prayer flags hanging up in my apartment! The paper ones are similar to the sets currently up in the shop, but the fabric ones are limited editions from last year.
Kit also makes paper jewelry! Here are pictures of my woven paper earrings she made:
I know that I’m her daughter, so of course I love her art, but objectively as a self-declared creative person with a good eye, I also think it’s amazing! You truly can’t understand how much time and love go into making something by hand until you see it done or do it yourself.
Here is the link to her shop, go check it out! She currently has some of her miniature prayer flags (as seen in Quilting Arts Magazine!), Christmas ornaments, and some of her hand-bound journals posted, but she also does custom orders and jewelry is coming back to the shop!
