July 2015 Birchbox Review

I received my second Birchbox on Friday! This will be my last subscription box for a while, I’m taking a big break from shopping and spending. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, Birchbox is a monthly makeup and beauty sample box. For $10 a month, you get 5 samples of high-quality beauty items tailored to you & based on the answers you provide to a quiz. The theme of this month’s Birchbox was “go bold”.

The first item in the box was this Oribe Beach Wave and Shine hairspray.

Full size is between $22-$39

This spray is supposed to give you beachy waves and shine when sprayed on wet or dry hair. I will gift this since I have curly hair and don’t want to try to make natural curls into crunchy waves. If I resubscribe to Birchbox, I will need to see if I can change my profile so they don’t send me hair products meant for other textures.

Full size is $25

This Skin Tonic Spritzer is a toner for your face and body. While I’m not sure what a toner is, I did find this really refreshing when I misted my face yesterday. Would I buy the full size of this? No. But it smells good and I’ll keep it in my purse for when I need something cool during this hot Davis summer.

Full size is $42

I like getting sunscreen samples because they are easy to just put in a bag and go and because I need sunscreen if I go outside for more than 15 minutes or I burn. I haven’t tried this yet because I’m still working on last month’s mango-scented one but I’ll definitely use it. I like that Birchbox is sending a lot of sunscreen this summer.

Highlighter is $12.75 full size and lipstick is $20 for a set of three

I love getting full-size (or at least many use) samples! The liquid lipstick from stila is full-size from what I can tell and the Jelly Pong Pong highlighter will last a long time. The highlighter is my favorite item this month because it’s exactly my style- subtle but shimmery and pretty. I thought it was nail polish at first but I read the label and was able to use it correctly. The liquid lipstick is crazy pigmented. This is definitely the “go bold” item in the box. I will need to be really careful putting it on because it smeared under my lips when I put it on the first time and it stained pretty intensely.

Swatch of the lipstick and highlighter

I liked the box this month, although the hairspray is not for me. Birchbox is a great idea and I hope to come back to it someday, but I don’t know how much I’ll miss it now that I’m taking a break. If you are really into makeup and beauty and looking to discover and try new products, this is an awesome box for you.
