October 2015 Rocksbox Review

This is my third Rocksbox, but I’ve been so busy that I didn’t get around to reviewing the other ones! Rocksbox is a designer jewelry subscription service, but instead of keeping the pieces, you wear them and send them back when you’re ready for a change! If you fall in love with a piece, you do have the option to buy it at a discounted price (which I did with the necklace in this box.)

Each box comes with three pieces of jewelry, usually one from your Wishlist and two surprise pieces selected by a stylist based on your answers to a style quiz. You can keep the box and wear the pieces for as long as you want, but you won’t get a new box until you send the old one back. Rocksbox is $19 a month, which I think is a great deal because you can get new jewelry as many times as you want – as fast as you can wear it and send it back!

Style Friday

Happy October!

I haven’t done one of these posts in forever, but I’ve been getting really into putting together outfits for work and I am researching starting to use liketoknow.it so I thought I’d post my favorite outfits I’ve worn in the last few weeks. So here it is, two days late!

IMG_1902

I got my first Rocksbox a couple weeks ago (get your first month of Rocksbox free by using code leilabff18) and these Loren Hope earrings were my favorite thing in it. I love the deep wine color right now. I can’t believe I haven’t tried Rocksbox before; the concept of getting to try and wear beautiful new jewelry for a while and then sending it back to get new stuff is genius!

IMG_1992

I got myself a Golden Tote this month to celebrate getting a job, and this feather dress is one of my favorite pieces I received. This photo doesn’t do a great job of showing off what the dress looks like, but I love the composition with the pears and the cactus 🙂

IMG_2039

I wore my new black leather booties from Lucky Brand with this JustFab blazer and a beautiful scarf that I got for my birthday to a Kristen Chenoweth concert last Friday. I got a ton of compliments on my scarf. I love these booties, they were exactly what I wanted for this season and I tried on about a million pairs at Macy’s and these really were the cutest/most comfortable.

This Puella dress (also from Golden Tote) is perfect for work. It’s a good length and matches so well with my beaded collar necklace that I got in Germany. I got the necklace because I thought it was really interesting, but it’s quite bold, so I haven’t worn it that much. This type of wrap dress neckline is perfect for showing it off.

Davis actually had a little rain last week! The weather cooled down a lot last Thursday, so I broke out my fringe cardigan. It’s so cozy and looked good for work with linen khakis and these awesome earrings:

IMG_2241

I got these big (but lightweight) earrings from Baublebar (link to same pair here). The ruby color is very fall-ish for me and I’ve already worn them twice so I know I’ll get a ton of wear out of them .

That’s it for now! I can’t wait to put together some fall-ish outfits for the next week.

Happy Sunday!

Favorite New Outfit #1

I went to Forever21 today because I wanted to get more of these really cute socks that they have and I found my new favorite article of clothing.

I got these awesome lemon shorts for $7.63 (marked down from $10.90)! I love the pattern and they fit perfectly when I tried them on, so I bought them. These will definitely be a major staple in my summer wardrobe now.

I love them with this dark grey v-neck tee shirt and silver necklace, but they will look cute with a lot of different tops! I have a white crop top and a plain black tee that will look great with these.

These shorts are available online and on sale here if you also want a pair! Have a great long weekend!

Fasionable Friday #5

It’s the end of week 9! Next week will be even crazier than this week was. Planning out my outfits is fun for me, and provides me some calm, though, so here’s what I wore!

Monday

Monday

The main thing I learned on Monday is that I really need to clean my mirror. I matched waay more than I usually do on Monday, and I liked it! The blues of my sweater and skirt were pretty close, but not exactly the same, and I think the brown booties were a good contrast.

Tuesday

Tuesday

Still loving my Priddy wrap shirt from Golden Tote! I put a lavender tank underneath it and bundled it up with my raincoat for the super wet weather.

Wednesday

Wednesday

My silly legging/sock game was on point on Wednesday. I made a terrible mistake with wearing porous shoes while biking because they were soaked by the time I got to the gym. These are my favorite leggings ever. They’re from Plndr and they’re RuPaul’d brand Iron Fist which is beautiful. Leggings on a rainy day are nice because they dry so much faster than jeans, and I get so many compliments on these.

Thursday

Thursday

Flannel, old man sweater, and jeans day! Super comfy and warm, two of my top priorities for this time of year.

Friday

Friday

There were boots involved in this outfit originally. The jacket is my vegan leather moto jacket from Golden Tote, which I adore and wear all the time. It’s a great weight and goes with so many things!

I have a choir concert later, which means I get to dress up fancy, so I’ll post a picture of that outfit when I have it!

My Favorite Gift Ideas

I don’t want to spoil anyone’s presents I’ll be giving them by writing a comprehensive list of my favorite things I’m gifting for Christmas, but a general gift guide couldn’t hurt! Here are the type of presents I really enjoy giving my family and friends:

Christmas-Presents-600x
1. Something practical. It’s nice to be able to give someone something that they will use. I know this is the category that socks fall into, and some socks are lame, but others could make quite a good gift, like these cable-knit ones from Golden Tote. Another great practical gift is a subscription to Dollar Shave Club. They will send you great blades each month, so you always have a sharp razor! It’s a very affordable present, as well.
2. Something for their home.  As college students/young “adults”, it seems that it takes about four people pooling their belongings in an apartment to come close having a full set of furniture/kitchen/bathroom stuff. That being said, we won’t always live with roommates, which means that someday we will find ourselves without a) a saucepan, b) a cheese grater, c) a TV, or d) a toilet plunger. Clearly, not all of these are things you can/ should get someone for the holidays (“Merry Christmas, Leila! We got you a plunger!”), but the idea is that you could gift something useful that they don’t have yet. I often receive kitchen goods from family members for Christmas and I think of them every time I use my cookie sheets, apron, casserole dishes, etc.
3. Something handmade. Something handmade is almost always a great gift. I knitted Ben a blanket for Christmas two years ago, and it was a huge hit. My mom often makes things for people as well. People (most people) greatly appreciate that you care about them enough to spend your time creating something for them! An added bonus, as pointed out to me by my friend Amanda, is that if you make something for someone, it doesn’t matter quite as much if it’s not something they will use all the time because it was so thoughtful that they made something for you at all.

4. Something unexpected. Unexpected gifts are fun because they’re surprising! Ben is very good at the unexpected gift. For instance, he gave me a kettlebell last year, which is not something I would have thought to ask for or buy for myself, but it’s awesome and I use it often! Ben also took me horseback riding for part of my Christmas present last year, which I loved! You have to know someone pretty well though, I think, to be able to get them something they never would have thought of but that you know they will like.
5. Something beautiful. There’s always room for more beauty in the world. Giving someone a piece of art, music, your favorite book, tickets to a museum or a concert, these are ways you can give something beautiful. Even if you don’t have a big budget, you can get nice prints of artwork or cheap tickets online. Sometimes giving someone an experience can be a far more valuable present than something material.

Happy gifting, everyone!

Fashionable Friday (Saturday) #4

Monday

Monday

I cozied up in a cardigan and colored jeans on Monday. I’m so glad it’s consistently cold now!

Tuesday was a sweater and leggings kind of day. I paired them with brown booties from Forever 21.

Wednesday

Wednesday

I went home and got ready for Thanksgiving on Wednesday, so I wore my new Fabletics outfit! I got it for only $25 when I signed up, which is a total steal. I love both the leggings and the top! The leggings fit really well and aren’t see-through at all.

Thursday

I broke out my Golden Tote swing dress for Thanksgiving! It’s super roomy and comfortable which was perfect after the huge dinner I ate! I love how my nails turned out and looked with the dress.

Friday

Friday

I wore more colored jeans for wine tasting and picnicking yesterday. They brought out the colors in my Cut & Sew kimono cardigan. I’m really happy that they fit me again!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Fashionable Friday #3

Monday

Monday

I’m already getting so much wear out of the blue Cut & Sew swing dress! This week I paired it with a black and grey stripe Forever 21 cardigan, my favorite boots, and fun colorful leggings from Plndr.

Tuesday

Tuesday

Not really a picture of what I wore, but I love this shade so much! It was part of a duo called hot apple cider or something, which I think it fitting.

Thursday

Thursday

I wore my Priddy by Pruella wrap top yesterday. I got it as a replacement for a damaged item I received in my October tote, and I’m quite happy with it! The print is like paisley and lace and it’s suuuuper soft and comfy. I can see wearing this as a yoga top but it’s also a nice everyday shirt!

It looks cute bundled up, too! This is what I wore the the Hunger Games Mockingjay premiere last night.

Friday

Friday

I took this picture and it cracks me up because it looks like a stereotypical headshot for a composer or something. “Here I am sitting at the piano, look at how musical I am!” I just happened to be in a practice room when I decided it was time to take a picture of my cozy sweater of the day. It’s perfect for an overcast Friday.

Maybe next week I’ll actually get a picture of what I wear every day of the week!

Fashionable Friday #2

Hello! I’m so glad it’s Friday, I’ve been looking forward to this weekend! Unfortunately, I still have two work shifts and class in between me and going home. Happily though, I’m going to work out today, so that will be good.

This week I actually took more pictures of what I wore because I started an Instagram for the blog! Check it out here.

Monday

Monday

I wore my blue Merrick swing dress by Cut & Sew from Golden Tote on Monday. It’s so great! It’s simple and goes with so many different things, and it’s soo comfortable. I’m going to try it with a belt and big necklace next time I wear it. If you aren’t familiar with Merrick and her website, you have to check it out! She does all kinds of awesome DIY craft and sewing posts, as well as tutorials on how to wear different styles. This dress is the product of a collaboration between her and Golden Tote.

Wednesday

Wednesday was a big crunch to finish a big paper, but I still managed to get a workout in and wear the Le Lis button sweater from GT. I’m so glad it’s finally sweater weather! I was a bit worried about the delicacy and snagability of this top, but it held up through a day of my shenanigans so I think it’ll be okay!

Thursday

Thursday

It’s also scarf weather now! So stoked to break out my scarf collection and to wear this new one from my October Wantable box. I posted this on my Instagram and tagged Wantable, and they commented on it! I think that’s pretty cool. I also sported Julep’s Gel Eye Glider, AKA my new favorite eye liner. They have a whole bunch of shades, including these ones in their holiday pack (I totally want it!).

Friday

Friday

All hail the mighty blue polo shirt! This is my outfit today since I have work. Gotta love that polyester goodness and shiny nametag. Work days are always a bit lame for me because I have to wear pants and they have to be normal pants (no leggings or funky pants) but it’s okay. I’ll wear something cute tomorrow!

Style Friday #1

Man, I’m glad it’s Friday! It was a busy week for me, and it’s not really done yet because I have a paper to write tomorrow.

I decided to try doing new Friday posts about fun fashion and style I’ve tried throughout the week, so here’s the first edition!

IMG_0699

Thursday- a day that needed much coffee

I had fun sporting my Wantable rose gold watch basically all week. My dress from Thursday is from Forever 21 and is great for fall because it has longer kimono-style sleeves. My earrings, which aren’t super visible in this picture, were made by me! They’re long triangles made from hammered copper. I’m pretty proud of them.

Friday

I painted my nails with the black shimmer “Ledi” polish from Julep yesterday and it turned out really well! The polish went on beautifully (to both my nails and the surrounding skin- damn my shaky caffeine hands.)

I just had the idea for this article yesterday, so I don’t have much for this week’s edition, but I hope to have an expanded one next week!
